This weekend (November 16-17) was an eventful one, with area residents gathering for the 19th annual Artwalk festival in Alpine on Friday and Saturday, and the Marfa Airport Open House Saturday morning. The streets of Alpine were packed with exotic cars and diesel trucks, costumed dogs and elaborately crafted bicycles. Homemade aircraft took the skies of the Trans-Pecos, giving residents and visitors a birds-eye view of the mountainous West Texas landscape, and the town of Marfa, a humbling image from 1000 ft.
The airport's open house also celebrated the life and legacy of the Travland family, with a ceremony inducting longtime aviation enthusiasts and pioneers Oscar & Melba Travland into the Presidio County Aviation Hall of Fame.
