CineMarfa, Cinco de Mayo and More: Marfa Weekend Happenings May 3-5

Whether you're in town for a wedding, passing through to catch the dwindling cooler days in Big Bend, or just looking forward to another two days off, there's plenty of fun to be had in Marfa this weekend.

Having started on Wednesday, the CineMarfa Film Festival continues through the weekend. Among films being screened at the Crowley Theater are God's Angry Man, a Werner Herzog film about a raving televangelist, a "groundbreaking, immersive portrait of the contemporary fishing industry" entitled Leviathan, and of course, controversial director Harmony Korine's latest film, Springbreakers.

Korine will reportedly be on hand for the screening of Springbreakers, taking place on Saturday at 10 pm (the screening is currently full, but seats may open up.)

Also on Saturday is the Brawlroom Marfa Roller Derby Match, hosted by the Marfa Roller Derby. The bout between the Marfa Furious 5 and the Hell Rio Rollers at the MAC building in Marfa.

Saturday also sees the Dersu Art Collective presenting their 3rd annual art exhibit and sale. The show happens at 6 pm at the Marfa Book Company, with all proceeds going towards the Marfa Education Foundation and the East Side Play! children's park.

Sunday of course is Cinco de Mayo, and the Marfa Rotary Club hosts a celebration on the Presidio County Courthouse Lawn from 3-7 pm with burgers, dancing, a dunking booth and more. The Boys2Men taco trailer Advisory Board will also be on hand accepting donations of non-perishable food, clothing and toys for children of the Casa Hogar orphanage in Ojinaga.
