UPDATE: 2:00 pm. The fire was quickly contained by emergency management crews. KRTS News was on the scene just after the fire began. Initially, the fire was moving west, approaching a residential structure. Lieutenant Losoya grabbed a hose from the home, and was able to stop the fire from advancing further.
1:20 PM. Just after 1 PM today, a grassland fire started on the south side of Alpine. The fire is just off of HWY 118, near the edge of town. Lieutenant Darrell Losoya of the Alpine Police Department was first on the scene. Currently emergency officials are on the scene working the fire. On the scene are four vehicles from the Brewster County Sheriff's Office, two Alpine Police Department vehicles, and three pump trucks from the Alpine Fire Department.
