KRTS spoke with Trooper John Barton of the Texas Department of Safety about a shooting on I-20 this (Wednesday) afternoon.
At 1:28 PM, a Texas highway patrolman made a traffic stop on I-20 in Ector County, near Penwell. During the course of the traffic stop, the driver of the car and the state trooper exchanged gunfire. The highway patrolman was shot in the arm.
The suspects then fled the scene and were pursued by troopers for about 20 miles on I-20. The chase ended when the suspect’s car wrecked. Both the patrolman and the suspect were admitted to the Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
