Holiday Programs for Friday, December 24

Tune in to KRTS every day this week for special holiday programming. Here’s what we’ve got on the schedule for today:

9 AM, Jonathan Winters reads A Christmas Carol - An updated version of a public radio tradition by NPR. Master comedian Jonathan Winters presents a distinctive reading of Dickens' holiday classic, with a special performing edition prepared by Dickens for his own presentations. Also featuring Mimi Kennedy. From NPR and KCRW.

10 AM, Tinsel Tales: NPR Christmas Favorites - This program features stories from the NPR archives that touch on the meaning of Christmas. David Sedaris, Bailey White, John Henry Faulk -- these and other NPR voices, past and present, tell stories of the season.

11 Am to 1 PM, Christmas Anthem – A 2-hour cheerful, cheeky blend of eclectic music matched to the many moods of Christmas. Enjoy new seasonal sounds with host Gini Mascorro.  From KERA/North Texas Public Broadcasting, Inc., serving Dallas and Fort Worth.

3 PM, A Christmas Gift For You -  The inside story behind this 1963 album featuring performances by The Ronettes, The Crystals, Darlene Love and Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans that raised the bar for pop/rock arrangements of classic holiday songs.  Includes interviews with singers Darlene Love and LaLa Brooks, musicians Nino Tempo, Don Randi and Hal Blaine.  Hosted by Anthony DeCurtis.

7 PM to midnight, The Glenn Mitchell Christmas Show - During his celebrated 30 year career at KERA in Dallas, the late Glenn Mitchell was known for his annual "Christmas Blockbuster" program, a marathon of Christmas music, trivia, spoken word, and quizzes. Enjoy this 5-hour collection of some of the best moments from Christmas Blockbusters past.
