First Week of August

The TransPecos Talk show - called Talk At Ten - can be heard weekdays at 10 AM, with a replay at 6:30 PM. On Monday (8/2): Dr. Mark Saka of Sul Ross on current Mexican politics; Tuesday (8/3):  Jack Sanders & Sam Douglas on architect Samuel Mockbee; Wednesday (8/4): Phil Hewitt, author of the novel, The Mariscol Canyon Dead. Thursday (8/5): Dona Roman, on Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream; and Friday (8/6): Lannan Foundation writer Michael Dickman.    

'Talk At Ten' this week

  Talk At Ten is the weekday interview program, live at 10 AM and repeated at 6:30 PM. Monday, July 26: Writer Joe Hagan of The Believer on the secret diary of Nina Simone, plus Laurence Parent, author of Death In The Big Bend; Tuesday: Texas gubernatorial candidate Bill White; Wednesday: mathematician Hein Hundal; Thursday: photographer James Evans, also Joel Guzman & Sarah Fox, en espanol, at 3pm;  Friday: D.J. Stout, author of a new book on the Alpine Cowboys professional baseball team, plus David Morrell, author of Shimmer; also, at 3:30pm, musician Jonny Burke.     

VERSIONquest Saturday Night at 7 PM

This Saturday, July 17th, VERSIONquest returns to the airwaves. From 7-8 PM, tune in to hear covers of Night and Day, the popular Cole Porter song written for the 1932 musical "Gay Divorce." It is perhaps Porter's most popular contribution to the Great American Songbook, and it has recorded by dozens of artists. Join DJ JD this Saturday to hear them all!  

Sunday morning plane crash

Five area people were killed outside Alpine early this (Sunday) morning when a medical plane crashed after taking off from the Alpine-Casparis airport, bound for a Midland-Odessa hospital. The pilot of the Cessna 421 was attempting an emergency landing when the plane hit a rut, overturned, and burned. The crash victims were Mary Folger, Richard Folger, Sharon Falkner, Tracy Chambers, and Ted Caffarel.

Kelly Fenstermaker

We are very saddened by the passing of one of our brilliant interview hosts, Kelly Fenstermaker of Fort Davis. Kelly was a superb volunteer, an astute interviewer, and an amazing woman.

KRTS DJ on 'Talk Of The Nation' Monday

Talk Of The Nation is heard weekdays on Marfa Public Radio, from 1 to 3 pm. This syndicated NPR call-in show invites listeners to participate in a national conversation. On Monday's program, one of the segments will feature Tift Merritt, whose original program, "The Spark" is heard monthly every first Saturday at Noon on Marfa Public Radio.
