KRTS just spoke with Earl Armstrong, FEMA Region 6 Spokesperson. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded the state a Fire Management Assistance Grant in response to the damage caused by the Rock House Fire.
According to FEMA, these grants are used “for the mitigation, management, and control of fires on publicly or privately owned forests or grasslands, which threaten such destruction as would constitute a major disaster.”
The Fire Management Assistance Grant Program “provides a 75 percent Federal cost share and the State pays the remaining 25 percent for actual costs.” The amount of the grant will be determined once the full impact of firefighting operations and damage is assessed.

We’ve also received the following statement from the Red Cross:
“The Red Cross is providing assistance for residents who have suffered any losses to due to the Rockhouse Fire. This includes residents who have lost perishable items due to the extended power outage. The Red Cross has also not been able to make contact with some of the residents who lost all or part of their homes during the fire. Even homes that have suffered minor damage are eligible for assistance. Persons wishing to obtain assistance should come to the Red Cross Service Center located in the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office.”
