Fire crews across West Texas continue to fight two blazes burning in Jeff Davis County. As of Wednesday morning, the two fires are almost fully contained.
As of this morning, the Barrel Springs fire is 65 percent contained. The fire has spread across 80 acres of Jeff Davis County, near where the McDannald Ranch fire blazed for two weeks straight.
Crews from the Valentine and Marfa volunteer fire departments responded to the fire when it first broke out. A lightening strike is believed to have started it. According to the Fort Davis Fire Department, crews from Fort Davis and the Forest Service are putting out hot spots and improving the containment line. Officials say there is no active fire at the time.
Meanwhile, a second, slightly larger fire is also burning through Jeff Davis County. The High Lonesome Ranch fire has spread through 100 acres in West Texas. It's now 50 percent contained.
The fire is also believed to have been started by a lightening strike about 5 miles north of the 118/166 split.
