Election Results for Alpine and Presidio

On Saturday, May 11, Alpine held elections for a city council seat, and Presidio voted for mayor, city council and school board.

Jim Fitzgerald will take over Alpine City Counsel Ward 3 seat for Carlos Lujan, who did not seek re-election. Fitzgerald received 45 votes, and his opponent, Dian Raun, received 37.

In the race for Mayor of Presidio, school counselor John William Ferguson defeated his opponents, pulling in 291 votes. Obed Escontrias received 161 votes, and Esperanza Carrasco received 157.

Seven candidates were vying for two Presidio City Council seats, currently held by Butch Acosta and Obed Escontrias. Armando Saenz-Albo and Mario Vargas were the winners, with 298 and 187 votes respectively.

The Presidio School District had four positions on the ballot, Those of president Carlos Nieto, vice president Carmen Elguezabal, secretary Abelardo Franco, and trustee Marco Baeza. Winners were Velva I. Saenz (313 votes), Carlos Nieto (303 votes), Abelardo Franco (294 votes) and Alfred P. Muñiz (264 votes).
