Former Alpine Council Members File Paperwork for Recall of Mayor Rangra

Former Alpine city council members Carlos Lujan, Diana Asgeirsson, and Hugh Johnson have filed an affidavit for petition for the recall of Alpine Mayor Avinash Rangra at city hall.

On May 21, Marfa Public Radio spoke with Mayor Avinash Rangra, interim City Manager Chuck Harrington, and reporter John Waters about the cities recent troubles. Listen to the conversation here.

Earlier this year, Marfa Public Radio reported on then-councilman Lujan's plans to initiate recall proceedings. In March, Lujan told KRTS he believed the mayor made too many decisions behind closed doors. Since then, the city of Alpine faced a harsh audit report, and fired their city manager and finance director.

With the signed affidavit filed, the three former council members now need to collect signatures from 350 Alpine voters before they can initiate a special recall election.
