Herrman says Critical Audit is a "Good Roadmap" for Tackling County's Accounting Deficiences

Rick Herrman, Presidio County Auditor (Travis Bubenik)

Newly-appointed Presidio County Auditor Rick Herrman joined us on Morning Edition today to talk about his priorities for getting the county's finances back in shape.

After an unsuccessful bid for Jeff Davis County Judge in the March Democratic primary, Herrman was appointed to the position by District Judge Roy Ferguson. The move comes after a troubling audit from 2012 that found serious problems with the county's accounting procedures.

This morning we asked Herrman about his priorities for the job, what challenges he's likely to face and also some public criticism that's arisen over the appointment.

Reporter Lorne Matalon joined us to talk about how the county will pay for the new position.
