Happy Holidays from KRTS Marfa! Here’s a rundown of the special programs we have scheduled for today.

11 AM to 1 PM, American Routes' Red, Green & Blue Xmas -American Routes has made its list and there's no need to check it twice.  Join us for our favorite holiday tunes, from the hep jive of Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis to the cool sentiments of Frank Sinatra and Elvis and the ecstatic vibe of Celia Cruz and Bela Fleck. Plus yuletide memories from Diana Krall, Solomon Burke and other special guests.  Be ready to bachata, boogie and second line as we celebrate the season.

3 PM, Una Tradicion de Navidad with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir - Sounds of the season from the Grammy and Emmy award-winning Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

7 PM to 9 PM, Paul Winter's 2011 Solstice Concert - For more than a quarter-century, saxophonist Paul Winter has celebrated the longest night of the year with a concert. For the 22nd straight year, NPR presents Paul Winter's annual Winter Solstice Celebration, held at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in Upper Manhattan.

Backed by the Paul Winter Consort, Winter's soaring soprano sax drives a spectacle of theater, dance and music. WNYC's John Schaefer hosts the broadcast, and welcomes guests such as multi-instrumentalist and singer Arto Tunçboyaciyan, gospel singer Theresa Thomason and double-reed master Paul McCandless.

9 PM, Juke in the Back’s R&B Christmas – This show is loaded with the greatest R&B Christmas records from the late 1940s and 1950s.  It’s the yuletide soul that came before rock n’ roll.  From the all-time classics by Clyde McPhatter & The Drifters and The Orioles to some rarer Christmas plattahs from Amos Milburn, JB Summers and The Five Keys.

Thanks for tuning in. In addition to these specials, you can enjoy Christmas music selected by KRTS DJs and volunteers overnight.
