Alpine Lawyer and Former KRTS Host John Anderson Dies

Alpine resident and former Marfa Public Radio host John Anderson died at age 70 on Wednesday morning (February 25) at the VA Hospital in Temple, Texas, after suffering a stroke on Tuesday night. He had been hospitalized for many months as a result of medical complications following a successful hip surgery in September 2013.

A native of Denison, Texas, Anderson graduated the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1965. He served in two tours of Vietnam, where he was honored with two purple hearts and two bronze stars. In 1974 he graduated from the Law School at the University of Texas Austin. He practiced law in Austin until 2005, when he moved his practice to Alpine.

Anderson was a regular contributor to the Literary Hour on 93.5 FM. He wrote book reviews and read poetry and excerpts from this favorite authors. On occasion, he hosted Book Notes with his brother Steve Anderson, who originated the program.

There will be funeral services at St. James Episcopal Church in Alpine at 2 PM on March 7.
