Odalys Chacon

In October, the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension held their annual “Kids & Kows & More” Agriculture expo in Alpine. 4-H kids in Presidio & Brewster Counties were able to get up-close-and-personal with local agriculture businesses. Twenty nine 4th graders from the Marfa Public School competed in an essay contest. In December, the winner of the contest was announced as Odalys Chacon. She was presented with a certificate and a crisp new $50 bill for winning.

KRTS News visited Odalys at Marfa Elementary School. She reads us her winning essay, about her family’s history in agriculture, the intricacies of honey-bee farming, and why America’s treatment of horses makes us better than France.
