Big Bend Ranch State Park is one of nearly 100 state parks and historic sites that will close in response to the coronavirus.

Sunday, down by the Rio Grande, was the annual Big Bend ultra-running event. This race has had different names over the years, but it always features a distance that’s longer than 26.2 miles, which is the distance of a marathon. This year, it was held at Big Bend Ranch State Park, and the distances were 10-kilometers, 30-kilometers, and … believe it or not…. 50-miles.

Tom Michael was there and has this audio report. He spoke with Cameron Carlin of Alpine, Shelley & Jackie Howard of Austin, Patrick Hillery, David Long of the Barton Warnock Center, Cynthia Roden of Midland, Carroll Voss of San Antonio, Erik Ensroot of Boston, and Jeff Matheis of Marfa.
