Back-burning to combat the Rock House Fire, April 28, 2011

On Thursday, fire crews fought the Rock House Fire by strengthening control lines around the fire, structure protection lines, and by employing airborne resources. A focus of the efforts remain in and around Madera Canyon. Winds were lighter Thursday. Texas Highway 118 was closed north of Sunrise Stables (which is north of Limpia Crossing), except to local traffic.

As earlier reported, the Presidio County fire on the Shurley Ranch came under control Wednesday at 6 pM.

In other news, a nearby earthquake was reported in northern Mexico about 35 miles southwest of Sierra Blanca, Texas. Tremors were felt in El Paso. Some local landowners in our region complained of sudden changes to their water pressure; KRTS is investigating these reports.
