After an impressive four-game winning streak, the Alpine Fightin’ Bucks lost their first game of the season Friday night against Muleshoe, with a final score of 14-55. In Fort Davis the Indians narrowly fell to Balmorhea, the game ending at a close 48-50. The Marfa Shorthorns also came up short in Fort Hancock, losing 14-34 against the Mustangs.

In Alpine on Saturday, the Sul Ross Lobos lost to the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor 28-76. The loss was the Lobos third and leaves them with a 1-3 record.

Also this weekend, the Marfa Yonke Gallos hosted the Austin Texas Playboys for their annual baseball game at Vizcaino Park on Saturday, as a part of the El Cosmico Trans-Pecos Gathering of Music & Love. The game featured a particularly inspiring tribute to Beyonce, spearheaded by a dancing squirrel. Marfa pulled the win against Austin, with those in attendance reporting a score of approximately 26-5. Official scorekeeping, however, was decidedly questionable.
