In high school football news, Balmorhea earned yet another victory Friday night, defeating Buena Vista 58-8 and bringing the Bears' record to 6-1. Fort Davis and Marfa rested up over the weekend, while Sierra Blanca triumphed over Sanderson, winning 28-18.

The Alpine Fightin' Bucks also brought their record to 6-1 on Friday, hosting and then pummeling Regan County with a 54-7 win.

The Sul Ross Lobos weren't as lucky, suffering their fourth loss of the season at home on Saturday against Louisiana College. Sul Ross led by an extra point in the first quarter, but Louisiana College rallied back in the second with 21 points, answered only by a field goal from the Lobos before the half. The Lobos failed to recover from the Wildcats' early lead, and lost 41-22.

On Tuesday, October 23, the Alpine Fightin' Ladybucks volleyball squad defeated Tornillo to secure their place as district champions. The team won in 4 sets. The team also managed to raise over $500 as a part of their "Dig Pink" cancer awareness event during the game. The money will be donated to the Alpine chapter of the American Cancer Society.

The Big Bend Youth Soccer Association will host its tournament day for all youth divisions on November 3 at Kokernot Park in Alpine. Games will start at 8 am, concluding with championship games for each division at 4 pm. The games will be followed by an award ceremony and special prizes for the top three teams in each division. In addition, the Big Bend Youth Soccer Association Board will give away 12 Challenger Camp soccer scholarships, for a soccer camp to be held in August 2013.
