Marfa Shorthorns

Here’s your recap of highschool and college sports across the Trans-Pecos and Permian Basin over the past weekend.

The big game in the Trans Pecos occured on Friday evening as the Marfa Shorthorns and the Fort Davis Indians faced off in Fort Davis.  The Shorthorns held their own and kept the Indians from winning their first game of the season with a final score of 39-26, sticking the Indians with an 0-10 record.  Elsewhere in the region, the Alpine Fightin' Bucks shut out the Coahoma Bulldogs, scoring 47 points in the process and giving themselves a winning record of 5-4.  The Sierra Blanca Vaqueros weren't as fortunate, losing a close 44-36 game against the Buena Vista Longhorns.  Fort Stockton had trouble over the weekend as well, losing 27-13 to the Pecos Eagles.  Finishing up in the Trans-Pecos, the Van Horn Eagles lost as expected to the Wink Wildcats.  The score in that game was 48-20, leaving the Wildcats with a 7-3 record and the Eagles with their dismal 0-10.

Up in the Permian Basin, the Monahans Lobos and the Grandfalls-Royalty Cowboys both had shut outs to brighten up their weekend.  The Lobos beat the Big Spring Steers 31-0, giving both teams a 7-3 record.  The Cowboys took the Sanderson Eagles with a dominating 64-0, continuing their winning streak that has lasted since the second game of the season.  In the hotly contested game between the Crane Cranes and the Sonora Broncos, the Cranes went down 35-7.  This was the first loss for the Cranes this season, breaking their perfect streak and giving them a 9-1 record.

In Permian 11-Man, the Midland Lee Rebels lost their 7  game winning streak, losing 37-27 to the San Angelo Central Bobcats.  On the other hand, the Permian Panthers managed to win in a tight 38-35 game against the Coronado Mustangs.

Finally, the Sul Ross Lobos are back to their old ways, losing 32-21 to the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets.

Tune in on Friday at noon during Old School and Oldies for a preview of the upcoming weekend games.
