On Tuesday, June 25, Marfa Public Radio begins our series on challenges facing the Tarahumara indigenous people of northern Mexico.
In the first part of our series, Lorne Matalon reports on hunger in Tarahumara land from the Sierra Madre of Chihuahua, Mexico.
Between drought and drug traffickers forcing them off their land, the Tarahumara are struggling to grow the subsistence crops they depend on. Sympathetic Mexican & American neighbors are with them now as the planting season begins. They are supplying the Tarahumara with food and and high quality seeds for next year.
