Sometimes the National Weather Service just has a way with words.
The latest forecast discussion - the jargony, insiders-only-style forecast hidden deep in the often mysterious weather service web portal - says we're definitely in store for at least some snow on Thursday and Friday.
"Seems like a slam dunk that it will snow with the tougher question being how much?" Wednesday's forecast discussion reads.
There's a 30-40% chance for thunderstorms across the Big Bend and the Permian Basin on Wednesday. That rain's expected to turn slowly into snow as colder weather moves in Thursday and into Friday morning.
Snow is expected to start developing in the Midland-Odessa region and along the I-20 corridor around noon on Thursday, and then to slowly move south through the Big Bend.
1" to 3" of snow is possible for most of the region - with 4" to 5" possible in parts of Brewster, Jeff Davis, Pecos and Culberson Counties, along with most of Reeves County.
In the higher elevations - mainly in the Davis Mountains - 6" to 7" is possible.
For now, there's a Winter Storm Watch in effect from Wednesday night through Friday morning.
As winter weather conditions develop, ice and snow could accumulate on the roads and visibility could be limited.
