On Thursday, a new exhibit opened at the Marfa Contemporary, featuring Rocio Rodriguez, a Cuban-born artist living in Atlanta. She spent last Fall in Marfa, creating the works featured in the show, entitled "Framing the Unframable."
“Marfa was a very unique experience," said Rodriguez, "primarily because of the light here. And also the way that you can really perceive the entire 360 degrees, when you stand at the top of the town, at the hill.”
At the opening reception at Marfa Contemporary, Tom Michael asked her how the West Texas landscape informed her work. "What really got to me was how the sky and earth were constantly in conversation with each other, depending upon the light."
In this audio podcast, Rodriguez speaks about the horizon line, the altitude, the calm and quiet, and how mustard yellow was an "emotional reaction to the heat" of West Texas.
"For me it was a real sensory experience," said Rodriguez.
