Volunteer Fire Departments from Fort Davis and Marfa on Wednesday responded to a 52-acre grass fire outside Fort Davis, near the intersection of highways 118 and 17.

Officials say the fire is now largely contained.
Firefighters are in "mop up mode", working to put out any hot spots, prevent winds from picking the fire back up, and "working the edges to put it out."

Winds in the Trans-Pecos have caused the grass fire to spread, which officials with the Ft. Davis Volunteer Fire Department are working to contain.
The fire appears to have started just south of Dolores Mountain. It remains unclear just how large the fire is, but officials say this is the first of the season.

The Marfa Volunteer Fire Department has sent 2 trucks and command units to assist with the fire this evening.
A reverse 9-1-1 call to alert individuals in Fort Davis about the fire and the efforts to contain it has been requested.
