Containment for the McDannald Ranch fire is now up to 39 percent, officials said Sunday morning.
The wildfire that’s believed to have been started by lightning strike early last week has affected an estimated 18,966 acres as of Sunday morning.
There are more than 350 personnel on the ground fighting the fire Sunday. That number is likely to change day-to-day.
Crews are continuing to put in protective measures in the Davis Mountains Resort area, where there’s still a voluntary evacuation request in place. The fire’s edge came within a half a mile of the closest house in the DMR last week. Officials say they’re continuing to work on new access roads and containment lines in the area.
There are still active hotspots burning on Paradise Ridge at this time.
Weather in the Davis Mountains is looking hotter and drier than it was Saturday. Relative humidity could drop into the single digits today, and highs are in the mid-80s. Temperatures are expected to reach into the 90s this week.
The fire no longer has a major flame front or head, but until it is 100% contained, officials say new flare ups and fronts are possible.
