Elections will be held across West Texas on May 4, 2019.

(August 1) Alpine's Pete Gallego defeated San Antonio's Ciro Rodrigues for the democratic nomination for the 23rd congressional district. Gallego will challenge Republican Congressman Francisco "Quico" Canseco" in the general election.

Former State Solicitor General Ted Cruz defeated Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst.

Paul Sadler, former member of the Texas House of Representatives, defeated Grady Yarbrough. Sadler will face off with Cruz in a heated race in the general election.

In local elections, current Alpine city attorney Rod Ponton has defeated Frank Brown in the 83rd District Attorney election. Since there is no Republican challenger, Ponton will become the new District Attorney in January 2013. Ponton won in Presidio and Brewster Counties, while Brown won Jeff Davis County.

In Presidio County, incumbent constable Juan Lara was defeated by Estevan Marquez by nine votes. Felipe "Phil" Cordero was defeated by James "Jim" White III. Presidio mayor Lorenzo Hernandez defeated incumbent Commissioner Carlos Armendariz by thirteen votes. There were no Republican challengers, so the winners will take office.

In Brewster County, incumbent precinct 3 Comissioner Ruben Ortega handily defeated Eduardo Vega. Ortega will go on to face Republican Ben Ramirez in November.

In the precinct 4 commissioner race, Mike "Coach" Pallanez   defeated Van Neie. Pallanez will face Republican Carl Lewis in the general election.

Polls closed at 7 PM yesterday in the primary run-off election. Voter voting turnout in the area, exceeded expectations in Brewster, Presidio, and Jeff Davis Counties.
