West Texas Representative Reacts to Manafort Charges

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort surrendered to federal authorities this morning for 12 charges ranging from Money Laundering to conspiracy against the United States. Rick Gates and George Papadopoulos were also asked to turn themselves in. via Texas Public Radio.

The indictments stem from appointed Special Investigator Robert Mueller's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump Campaign and the Russian Government.

Texas' District 23 representative Will Hurd sits on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which has its own Russian Meddling investigation.

He says this is what investigator Robert Mueller was asked to do and Federal Prosecutors don't bring charges frivolously.

"There's a reason that federal prosecutors have like a 99 percent conviction rate," says Hurd. "It's because they don't bring cases that isn't close to being a slam dunk. I don't know if there is anything such as a slam dunk."

Congressman Hurd said his committee's investigation would continue independent of Special Investigator Mueller's probe.
