Night Blooming Cereus

There are many different cacti in the Chihuahuan desert but the Queen of the Night is unforgettable. For most of the year, the Queen of the Night is nothing to look at. Its branches are barren and project out like a deer's antlers. But if you're lucky enough to catch one blooming it's not a sight to be missed. Appropriately, the Queen of the Night blooms only at night; its flowers unfurl over the course of night and close just after sunrise.

Tune into this week's Nature Notes to hear more about this desert beauty.
