There have been ongoing allegations of financial malfeasance at the City of Alpine. At Thursday's scheduled meeting of the City Council, the auditing firm of Skinner & Lara was prepared to deliver their audit report. Due to lack of quorum, however, the meeting did not take place.
John Waters, the publisher of the Big Bend Gazette, was present to receive the audit. He reviewed it and brought it to the KRTS Studios for public discussion during All Things Considered, on Friday at 5:20 PM.
On the radio program, Waters described the audit as uncovering "gross incompetence" at the city. Waters spoke to city attorney, John Armstrong, who shared dismay that the scandal has dominated recent proceedings. He also spoke with Council Members Mike Davidson, Carlos Lujan, and Diana Asgeirsson.
