Thanks to a partnership with West Texas Public Radio KXWT and the West Texas Jazz Society, jazz pianist Johnny Varro will bring his swing-style jazz to Alpine on July 30.
Varro has toured with Bobby Hackett and started as an intermission pianist at Eddie Condon’s club in the 1950s, where he eventually became Condon’s band pianist. He worked on the Jackie Gleason show when he moved to Miami Beach in the 1960s. After living and playing in Los Angeles for 14 years, Varro moved to the Tampa Bay area where he currently resides, playing many clubs and jazz festivals all over the world.
KRTS will host Varro at St. James’ Episcopal Church in Alpine. The event is Tuesday July 30 at 7 p.m. and is free to the public.
