Sul Ross State University in Alpine is currently under "Lobo Lookout" after an elderly man carrying a long rifle was seen entering the Business Administration Building at 8:04 AM this morning.
Guns are to be checked-in when brought on campus, but the person allegedly did not follow the university's weapons possession procedures.
The entire campus is on lockdown, and classes have been canceled. Sul Ross Campus Police have advised students and faculty on campus to lock all doors and stay in their dorms or offices.
Campus police, the Alpine Police Department and Brewster County Sheriff’s Department are all on campus.
At 8:39 AM, the university issued the following alert to its staff and students:
LOCK ALL DOORS, STAY INSIDE UNTIL UDPS CANCELS THE ALERT.
CLASSES ARE CANCELLED.
