Dia De Los Muertos

This Día de los Muertos, Marfa Public Radio is asking listeners to share memories and remembrances of loved ones that have passed on.

Traditionally, Dia de los Muertos is celebrated with ofrendas — tiered altars featuring a photo of the person being remembered, candles, food and drink, special keepsakes, sugar skulls and bright orange and yellow marigolds — the scent of which is said to help guide the dead to the altar.

Inspired by the many ofrendas we’ve seen in our region around this time of year, we’re hoping to fill our airwaves with your dedications, using songs to help us visit with the memories of those we’ve lost — but we can’t do it without your help.

We’re putting together a special Día de los Muertos music show on October 31, starting at 11 a.m. where we’ll air your memories and song dedications.

Para Día de los Muertos, Marfa Public Radio está pidiendo a los oyentes que compartan recuerdos y memorias de sus seres queridos que han fallecido.

Tradicionalmente, el Día de los Muertos se celebra con ofrendas, altares escalonados con una foto de la persona a la que se recuerda, velas, comida y bebida, recuerdos especiales, calaveras de azúcar y brillantes caléndulas naranjas y amarillas, cuyo aroma se dice que ayuda a guiar a los muertos hasta el altar.

Inspirados por las muchas ofrendas que hemos visto en nuestra región en esta época del año, esperamos llenar nuestras ondas con tus dedicatorias, utilizando canciones que nos ayuden a visitar los recuerdos de los que hemos perdido, pero no podemos hacerlo sin tu ayuda.

Estamos preparando un programa musical especial del Día de los Muertos el 31 de octubre, en el que emitiremos tus recuerdos y dedicatorias.
